How can you have any pudding if you don't eat your meat?*

Last night was fun- as I posted in a previous entry, Griffin won tickets from a radio station for all four of us to go to a concert. We went to The Starland Ballroom (which I kept calling The Starroom Ball land by accident) to see The Machine, a Pink Floyd tribute band. We had such a great time. Of course we got lost- which we do quite regularly when going to a new place. But being lost in Sayreville, New Jersey was a little extra nerve wracking. We were on a dark and abandoned road down by the water. I kept thinking this is where the mob goes to dispose of bodies. But we stopped, got directions and found the place. The time on the tickets was 7:30- but we knew the show wouldn't start on time (rock and roll, baby). We did think they would start before 10 however. There were two opening bands- The Matt Koziol Band- they were great- Matt has a wonderful, soulful voice and the bass guitarist was too much fun to watch, reminded me of Flea from the RHCP. You can hear them here at their myspace page. The next band was Kickin' Bear. They are young and cute and performed a couple of covers that I really enjoyed (Black Magic Woman and Johnny B. Goode). You can find them here. One of the members of the band dedicated their set to John Lennon because it was the anniversary of his death. He said it had been 20 years but the guy next to us and I figured out it's been 27. I was in high school which maybe makes me too old to go out to a club to see a concert that starts at 10 p.m. He was at work driving a truck into the city when he heard the news on the radio.
As great as the opening bands were, it was a long wait for The Machine. It was interesting people watching though.I kept looking for industry insiders (very thin, black clothes, sunglasses, aura of hip, the men wear scarves) and making sure no one dropped Ruffies into my drink. That kind of thing happens to us pretty young things all the time. I know that because I watch Oprah sometimes and she did a show about it. By the time the band hit the stage the place was packed- we were lucky to have grabbed four stools by the bar early on. Tim is a HUGE Floyd fan -since high school. When we were dating we went to Laser Floyd at the Hayden Planetarium in NYC a couple times. He still plays the music sometimes so we knew all the words. My favorite- Another Brick in the Wall/We don't need no education- which is our "school" song. Our "school" being our Academy for Wayward Boys Homeschool. Griffin took some great video of that song but I was right next to him and singing along FAR too loudly so I won't torture you with that. I really don't know what's wrong with our camera- the band sounds great in the video but somehow my voice got all distorted- I just know I sound better than I do on that tape. Anyway- we could only stay for the first set. Two of us are too young to be out past midnight and two of us are too old. As it was we got home after 1am- we got lost on our way home too- cause that's just how we roll.
Here's some of Welcome to the Machine-

I love that you did this, although I could not have withstood such a thing. The noise would do me in! How old does that mean I currently am? I didn't like concerts that much even when I was young . . . I am so boring compared to the fun mom Roxanne!
