WPLJ's Summer Kick-off

We've been going to Wplj's summer blast-off at Jenkinson's in Point Pleasant for a few years now. It involves waking up before dawn and heading to the beach around 6:30a.m.- not our best time of day. But, Griffin and Riley wanted to go and they had some pretty big bands playing this year. We saw Jason Mraz- he did a really nice funky redition of "The Remedy" and the headliner- Lifehouse. It was packed solid- almost impossible to get around. We had to make our way to the back, though, because that was where they were giving away the free sodas and Mountain Dew at 7am is Riley's idea of the perfect breakfast. My sister, Barbara, showed up with her kids and we listened to the band for a little while and headed out to sit on the beach for a bit. The weather was perfect. We were home by 10 am. A perfect start to summer "down the shore".
Hope you have a great weekend!

Chris Difford is Cool for Cats

Me and Chris Difford!!!

Way back in the late 70's /early 80's my sister Barbara would play her Squeeze albums every morning while all us sisters were getting ready for school. We had one of those huge console stereos that took up a whole wall of our living room. We'd sing along, fight over the bathroom, somebody might have jumped up to dance on top of the coffee table (our Mom had left for work earlier) and Barbara liked to hang out upside-down in a chair and get a rush of blood to her brain. Good times. Anyway- Chris Difford, one of the members of Squeeze, gave a concert at the Toms River library tonight. Tim and I went along with Barbara and her two children. He gave a fabulous show, told a couple great stories about the band and came out again afterwards to sign our albums and pose for pictures.

My moss garden

Barbara's planter

Today my sister, Barbara (who got a 100 on her Calculus II exam final last week!!!) came for a visit. She wanted me to help her start a blog of her own and in return she brought a ton of moss from her yard and we planted some terrarium projects. We had a lot of laughs trying to find a good blog address that wasn't already taken. It seemed like anything with "happy"or "good" in the name was unavailable- however "drunk and easy" hasn't been taken yet! She vetoed that one- in favor of this.
Go check her out and say Hi!

Home alone

This week we are reading The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas. The boys are enjoying it. Yesterday we met homeschooler friends at the park for Tennis and hanging out. Today Riley was so happy to have one of the Dads at 4H teach him about restringing and tuning his guitars. Tim took the day off today and showed Griffin and Riley how to change a headlight on the van. Now they have all gone off to watch a movie and I'm home alone and taking more flower pictures. Life is good!

Happy Mother's Day!

.

Rummage Report- My Dad and his wife, Linda sent me a lovely card last week with a Mother's Day gift of some cash inside. So ,of course I took it and ran off to a rummage sale. I bought this cool storage box and the tablecloth it is sitting on. Also a beach towel, several books and movies, one hundred teaspoons (really, anybody local need some?) , two boxes of mason jars, three sets of vintage greeting cards and a cd player for the kitchen. Quite a haul- Thanks Dad and Linda!
Today is Mother's Day and everyone is home! John came back from college for the summer- done with his junior year. And Tim came home last night from a business trip to Egypt with a long enough layover at Heathrow that he took a train into London and walked around Hyde Park and had lunch in a pub. In Egypt he was able to go to the marketplace, go horseback riding to the pyramids and The Sphinx, had dinner on the Nile. And because his work was finished early, he took a flight to Luxor to see the Valley of the Kings! He said it was the trip of a lifetime- now he's home, a little sick, a lot tired and glad to be back. He brought me home some biscuts (cookies) from London and English and Egyptian candy bars for the boys.

Recovering, still

Sunday I reaffirmed my status as World's Coolest Mom (just in time for Mother's Day) by taking Griffin and Riley to an all day concert. Even though cameras weren't allowed in the festival, I managed to get some pics (smuggled in a camera, hidden in my bra!).

Today Tim and I went on a date to the RV and Trailer show at the PNC Center in Homdel.
For you local folks, it's still going on tomorrow.
We've gone every year for a while now. As I mentioned on my list, one of my dreams is to sell our house and most everything in it and take off for a life on the road. Fulltiming, they call it and there is a ton of blogs my those who do it here.
