Back in 2005/2006 I remember reading in our local paper about Laurel and Stacee's struggle for the basic right of Laurel's earned pension going to her partner after her death. I remember feeling outrage that Laurel's last weeks had to be spent fighting the board of freeholders. I remember reading about the case, the protests. I read the letters to the editor. I was happy to read that she had won her case- sad when I read just a few weeks later that she had died. A documentary was made about her final months.
The trailer-
It won an Oscar for best short documentary!
So why am I blogging about this? Stacee works at the auto shop down the street- she fixed the brakes on our van today.
If you want to read more- here is an article.
