Day trip to Philadelphia!

It's so great that Johnno came home this weekend to watch the Super Bowl with his Grandpa, Dad and brothers- three generations of Giants fans together to watch their team win!!! But he had a class today and I had to drive him back to school this morning. He goes to TCNJ (The College of New Jersey) which is in Trenton. So I start thinking about how Trenton is only about 1/2 hour from Philly and before you know it I made a sack of PB&Js and we were on the road. I had googled some directions on how to get there coming from the south but it turns out Trenton is north of Philly (it's a very distorted map that lives in my head). John convinced me that I really did want 95 south and we dropped him off at school and drove into the city with no problems. We found street parking a couple blocks away from the Historic center. We toured the Mint, put a penny on Ben Franklin's grave, saw a movie at the visitors center and took pictures in front of the Liberty Bell. They let you out of the Liberty Bell right in front of the Independence Hall (where they signed the Declaration of Independence) but the boys were over the whole history thing and Griffin was feeling tired so we didn't go in. We got some cheese steaks from a street cart and were back on the road by 2:30. We got home by 4- Griffin and Riley went straight for the X-Box and Halo and I took a little nap. Tim came home with pizza for dinner. A really good day.

Julie's Granola recipe

1 cup nuts
2/3 cup light vegetable oil
2/3 cup honey
1 tablespoon cinnamon
5 cups rolled oats
3/4 cup wheat germ
1 cup dried fruit

• toast nuts in a 350* oven for 5-10 mins.
• remove and allow to cool
• reduce heat to 325*
• in large bowl mix honey, oil and cinnamon
  
• add oats and wheat germ and toss until throughly coated
• spread oat clusters on large cookie sheet
  
• bake for twenty minutes stirring once halfway through
• allow to cool completely then mix with nuts and fruit
• can be stored for up to three weeks

Thing-a-day Day 3
A collage about the day I spent in Paris.
I used some of my photographs printed out as thumbnails
from my flickr account, the classifieds from a French newspaper,
my bus ticket, a piece of mirror and a coin. My favorite parts are the picture of my breakfast and the words at the bottom which say,
"unable to take another step, she walked" which pretty much
sums up my day in Paris during a citywide transportation strike.

The piece I submitted on the Thing-a-day blog for today. Copies of a picture of me-taken by Tim a good 18 or so years ago. I gave it a Andy Warhol inspired treatment with color pencils.

And below- Griffin and Riley's art of the day. One of their favorite forms of creating art is graffiti. Today was warm enough for them to go outside and spray paint a little project they are working on- a skate park in our backyard. The middle image was made by Riley using a four piece stencil that he drew and cut out himself. It's Volcom's skateboarding logo.

Twenty-two years ago this very day .........

So to celebrate we (with Griffin and Riley) went out to Fridays restaurant late last night. After 10p.m. they serve $4.00 appetizers. Tim and I exchanged homemade cards and he gave me a candy bar :0) . This weekend John is coming home so I plan to try to make Chicken Cordon Bleu which is what was served at our reception at Jim's Deck House, Asbury Park,N.J.
